My work arises from two connected interests. The first concerns the natural world as it exists amidst the accumulated residue of human activity. The second is how we story ourselves through the places we inhabit.

My exploration of connection and disparity, between natural and contrived environments, between experience and perception, utilizes subjects that range from anatomy, biology,
and organic matter,  to mechanical detritus, found text, and the assorted effluvium of material culture.

The manner of representing these relationships, collecting image and text within stratified layers, equates to the processes of accumulation and accretion through which story and place are established. The scraped surfaces, random marks, and half-buried forms can be likened to the processes of entropy and recall, through which both objects and experiences decay, pass into memory, or are forgotten.

My studio has traveled a peripatetic path to different regions of the country, all of which have significantly influenced my work. The print shop, presses in tow, has been variously located at one time or another in Austin, Savannah, coastal South Carolina, and Chicago, and now resides on the south coast of Massachusetts in its current incarnation as Oyster Street Press.

I received a BFA from West Virginia University and an MFA from The University of Texas at Austin.
